Illinois Invasive Species Awareness Month 2015

A Call to Action!

Illinois Invasive Species Awareness Month Events

2015 Illinois Invasive Species Awareness Month (ISAM) is again scheduled for all of May.  This marks the sixth anniversary for ISAM.  For 2015, more events are being scheduled across the state.  Educational events, field days, hay-wagon tours, workshops, presentations, volunteer workdays, 'Garlic Mustard Challenges', training events, and interpretive hikes are just some of the different types of events that have been held as part of ISAM in the past.

This year why not challenge yourself and your organization to be creative and think of ways to reach new audiences with your message about invasive species?  Let's build on the past success of ISAM and continue to raise awareness about this important issue in Illinois.  The threat posed by invasive species is one of the biggest challenges facing conservation in Illinois!

This year we will be organizing and hosting the second annual Illinois Invasive Species Awareness Month Symposium on Thursday, May 28th from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm at the University of Illinois Extension in Champaign, IL.  Stay tuned for more details.

Local events, presentations, workdays, and field tours are needed across the state to help make Awareness Month a success. Please consider planning an Invasive Species Related event in 2015 in Illinois. To have your events listed as part of Awareness Month and included on the ISAM calendar and website, please contact Chris Evans, ISAM coordinator at - Email:, Fax: 618-439-7376, or Mail: 11731 State Hwy 37, Benton, IL 62812. As part of the many activities that will be occurring throughout the month, the ISAM Committee will select Awardees, honoring Illinois citizens and organizations for their significant contribution to prevent or manage invasive species that harm Illinois’s land and water.  We will accept nominations for individuals, groups, and organizations for their exemplary efforts at addressing issues surrounding terrestrial and aquatic invasive species, including animals, pathogens, plants, and forest pests. Please consider nominating adults and youth that you work with or know who are worthy of this award (see link below  for details).
